Course Objective

The Expat Road Safety Orientation Programme helps minimize the risk of an expat being involved in vehicle collisions by preparing them for both physical hazards and traffic behavior they will encounter on our roadways.

Content

  • The Profile – This comprises of an interview with the driver to gather information on him/her including:
    • DP# & Expiry Date
    • Driving Experience
    • Accident History
    • And other data to form a profile
  • The Assessment or Practical – This part takes the expat on the road to point out hazards associated with driving on the roadways of Trinidad and Tobago while at the same time assessing his/her ability to operate the vehicle safely and use their hazard recognition skills.
  • Guidance
    • Physical Hazards: road surfaces, shoulders, lane widths and more.
    • Traffic Behavior: Taxis, Maxis, PH, Pedestrians and more.
    • Route to Area of Operation: e.g. Galeota, Chaguaramas, Pt.Fortin, Pt.Lisas.etc
    • Local Traffic Laws

Certification

A report is given to the H.S.E Manager for review with a recommendation stating whether the Expat be allowed a company vehicle (or rental) or that he/she should: a) Be permitted to Drive; b) use a taxi service or c) use the buddy drive system until a comfortable level skill is displayed.
