Course Objective

To provide participants with necessary knowledge and skill to safely operate the Carrydeck Shuttlelift (Mini-Mobile Crane). To provide participants with knowledge of OSHA and ANSI regulations governing Mobile Crane Operations as required for operators.

Understanding of Crane functions and Limitations. Hazards associated with Mobile Crane Operations. Understanding of safe lift planning before commencing operations including sling selection and center of gravity.

Classroom Session:

  • Roles and Responsibility of Mobile Crane Operator
  • OSHA Standards Subpart N governing mobile crane operations including ANSI operating Standards.
  • Various types and applications of Mobile Cranes.
  • Mobile Crane Inspection –Lifting Capacity/Operational Defects
  • Definition of Crane Terminology
  • Operator Controls and Functions of Shuttle Lift
  • Load Capacity Charts/Boom Angle Indicators
  • Lift Planning – Rigging, Sling Selection, Site Evaluation
  • Crane Operator Signals
  • Minimum Safe Approach Distances (MSAD) for Mobile Equipment – Energized Power lines

Practical Session:

  • Crane Inspection Checklist and Procedures
  • Jobsite Evaluation – Powerlines/Surface
  • Mobile Crane Function Checks – Boom Operations/Hoist/Outriggers/Drive/Steer
  • Lifting Practical – Operator must demonstrate understanding to use controls smoothly in performing a Lifting Operation
  • Rigging and Signaling Practical – Operator must demonstrate ability to select appropriate sling for load and find Centre of Gravity.
  • Operator must demonstrate understanding of following Signal Man instructions.

Certification

Each participant will receive a Certificate and Wallet Card upon successful completion of training.
